Biography

Ana-Catrina Buchser is a freelance stage director based in the Bay Area. Her directing credits include The Caucasian Chalk Circle, The Memory of Water, and The Smell of the Kill (Dragon Productions), The Hound of the Baskervilles, Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, and Proof (Santa Clara Players), and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (The Tabard Theatre Company). Also at Tabard, Ana-Catrina wrote and directed the World Premiere adaptation Antigone (in the Oval Office), based on a modern translation by Ian Johnston from the Sophocles text.

Born into a family of artists, she received her formal training in piano and music theory in Bucuresti, Romania starting at age 4 and received the national title for piano in the 10-18 age group at age 12. She is an alumna of the alto and tenor saxophone sections of the Stanford Marching Band and has been singing with the Stanford Symphonic Chorus since 1999.

She attended Stanford University where she received a double Bachelor's Degree in Human Biology and Drama, as well as a Master's Degree in Theatre Directing.

Ana-Catrina is a member of Theatre Bay Area and the Directors Lab West, as well as an associate member of SDC.
